Position Description
Reporting to the Manager or Supervisor of Financial Accounting & Reporting, the Financial Accounting & Reporting Accountant is an experienced accounting professional directly responsible for supporting the financial accounting and reporting needs of designated business unit(s) as well as the design, implementation and maintenance of accounting controls. Accountabilities include timely and accurate production and issuance of period-ending financial statements for select business unit(s), ad hoc client service, reporting and analysis to provide business results and insights, informing and supporting the annual budgeting process, analysis and support of financial projects, identification of opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies, research and resolution of accounting issues as they arise, and assistance with special projects when necessary.
Essential responsibilities will include:
Financial Statements
- Prepare timely and accurate month-end financial statements.
- Coordinate with and support other Finance & Accounting functions in completing month-end close activities.
- Perform analytical review procedures on month-end income statement balances.
- Maintain variance analysis on business unit financial and overhead results.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations on balance sheet accounts.
- Support consolidated financial reporting.
Financial Support and Analysis
- Performance analysis of multiple decentralized locations within assigned business unit(s) & system-wide.
- Analysis and support of financial projects.
- Analyze and prepare monthly reports on operational performance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiencies.
- Research and resolve accounting issues as they arise.
- Assist with special projects when necessary.
Overall Business Unit(s) Accountabilities
- Income Statement Account Analysis - Monthly analysis of financial results vs budget, prior periods, and relevant industry factors.
- Balance Sheet Account Analysis - Monthly analysis & preparation of work papers supporting select balance sheet accounts.
- Budgeting - Support and inform annual budget preparation.
- Year-End Audit - Work paper preparation supporting year-end balance sheet accounts.
- Ad-hoc client service and reporting.
Internal and External Reporting Requirements
- Franchisor reporting and filing requirements (external).
- Ad-Hoc report requests (internal).
- Landlord financial reporting requirements (external).
- Track required restaurant licenses (internal).
- Analysis for in-house maintenance programs (internal).
- Financial information for profit share calculations (internal).
- Support Financial Accounting & Reporting Leadership on special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis (internal/external).
Desired Skills and Experience
- Qualified professionals must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting along with 3+ years of either Public Accounting experience with a National or large Regional CPA firm and/or financial analysis experience for a large company in their corporate offices.
- CPA or MBA is preferred, but not required.
- Must possess strong analytical as well as audit/research documentation skills.
- Comprehension of the monthly closing process and accurate financial statement preparation.
- Must possess strong Excel skills as well as demonstrated proficiency with general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and fixed asset software.
- Must possess good verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
- SAP experience is preferred, but not required.
