This is a unique opportunity to join a diverse, dynamic, and growing in-house legal department of a company that operates some of the most iconic and beloved restaurant brands in the nation (Applebee’s, Taco Bell, Panera, Arby’s, Wendy’s, and Pizza Hut).
This position is based in our San Francisco, CA Support Center, with the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
Position Summary
Conveniently located in the heart of the Financial District, Flynn Restaurant Group’s San Francisco Support Center is home to the company’s Legal Department, which directly handles Flynn’s own business, tort, and employment litigation and arbitration matters. Collaborating closely with Flynn’s in-house attorneys and Litigation Paralegal, the Litigation Paralegal will play an integral role in managing the litigation lifecycle for the team. The successful candidate will have a positive, proactive attitude that enables you to work independently, use good judgment, and escalate issues as needed. You must be a team player for whom no task is too big or too small, and who enjoys working in a collaborative environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, and you must demonstrate a willingness and interest to learn and develop. Responsibilities
Perform paralegal/legal administrative tasks as may be assigned by attorneys on the team in a timely manner.
Calculating and calendaring case-related deadlines for litigation matters.
Schedule/calendar appointments such as depositions, production of documents, client meetings, trials, court hearings, and appearances.
Draft correspondence, pleadings, litigation templates, memoranda; run tables of contents and authorities; create redline/blackline comparisons of documents; cite check briefs, proofread documents for errors.
Coordinate court filings, including filing of pleadings via electronic filing procedures as mandated and approved by courts.
Prepare responses to subpoenas and records requests.
Maintaining databases for various projects.
Assist with preparing responses to written discovery and document production.
Assemble fact chronologies and medical record chronologies.
Contact outside sources (courts, government agencies, etc.) to obtain public information.
Conduct factual and legal research, support coordinating fact investigations, and prepare attorneys for depositions, hearings, and trial.
Maintain and update legal files following Legal Department electronic filing system procedures.
Assist with administration of Legal Department’s e-billing software, including creation of matters and reviewing and responding to outside counsel inquiries regarding same.
Review, sort, distribute, and file mail; Answer telephones, record messages, and return calls as necessary.
Schedule messengers and other vendors for pick-up of documents for errands such as filings with court, delivery of documents to counsel and other types of errands.
Perform administrative functions, such as preparing check requests for vendor statements, expense reports, and other administrative tasks.
Provide trial support as needed.
Required Skills/Experience
High school diploma required. College degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
California Paralegal Certification preferred.
3+ years of experience as a legal secretary, project assistant, or paralegal supporting litigators.
Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) & Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Familiarity with e-mail scheduling tools in Microsoft Outlook and Teams.
Knowledgeable about state and federal local court rules and e-filing.
Experience with e-filing platforms in state and federal court (e.g., PACER/ECF).
Experience calculating litigation-related deadlines for calendaring purposes.
Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, efficient and productive at
managing multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, sit, and stand throughout the day.
Ability to see and read small and singled-spaced print.
Ability to hear and communicate in person, over the phone, and via videoconference
platforms.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. (e.g., office supplies/deliveries) and reach, bend, and
twist.
Ability to push or pull up to 50 lbs. (e.g., cart with office supplies/deliveries/trial
materials).
Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
Ability to use a step stool.
