Position Description
The Payroll Assistant assists with all aspects of payroll for our operating divisions (approximately 45,000 employees in over 900 units across the United States), with a focus on garnishments. Garnishment processing will include payments to state and federal agencies for child/spousal support and other garnishment types, point of contact for said agencies via phone, mail and email, and maintenance of the garnishment database in SAP.
Compensation: $18/hour
Essential responsibilities will include:
- Daily input of garnishments according to wage assignment orders.
- Mandatory response to wage assignment orders as required by all state and federal laws.
- Complete wage verifications as requested by governmental agencies and other parties.
- Assist with auditing timekeeping records for assigned region/brand payroll as needed.
- Assist with processing final checks for terminated employees in assigned region/brand payroll.
- Assist with maintenance of payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data as needed.
- Assist with calculating and processing periodic payments to employees for adjustments, refunds or direct deposit reissues as needed.
- Assist with researching and resolving production employee issues as needed.
- Support payroll operations compliance and accuracy by following policies and procedures; reporting and recommending needed changes.
- Assist with accurate payroll processing of assigned region/brand payroll as needed.
- Ability to process and maintain a high-volume of documents and data.
- Maintain good lines of communication between employer, employee and any third party agencies.
Desired Skills and Experience
- 0-3 years of experience in a high-volume payroll processing environment.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours would be a plus.
- Detail-oriented, strong math skills, accounting background a plus.
- Comfortable handling confidential information. Must be discreet, tactful and mature.
- Great customer service, collaboration and interaction skills. Position requires ability to obtain results quickly in the face of conflicting priorities while maintaining a positive relationship with customer.
- Proficient in Windows-based word processing and spreadsheet software
- High school diploma.
- Familiarity with SAP or other ERP (Oracle, PeopleSoft, Lawson) payroll a plus.
